        History

Donald Gray joined the the Society in 1907, became an Honorary Life Fellow in 1957, and died in 1962. He gave three displays of Netherlands to the Society during the thirties, but his only listed writings relate to Norway and India. The stamps of the Netherlands were, however, his first and greatest love, where the varieties in common stamps interested him just as much as the rarities. He started collecting the Netherlands in 1907 and added substantially to the collection as late as 1961. He was awarded the Tilleard Medal in 1937 and won a Gold medal at the exhibition in London 1950. He also collected Norway, early Luxembourg, India 1854, Switzerland 1854-62, Italian States, and early Great Britain, particularly on cover.
