Friends of that grand old man of the stamp market, "Robbie" Robson Lowe, will be pleased to learn that he was back at work as usual in his Duke Street, St. James's, office yesterday after spending the whole of Saturday night trapped in the lift there.

By an incredible chance Lowe, 81 in January, was only saved from spending the entire weekend [the in] lift because a solicitor with offices in the building forgot to take some papers home on Friday night and returned for them on Sunday morning.

Earlier Lowe had tried shouting and ringing the lift alarm every time he heard footsteps outside in the street. He even attempted to tap out the SOS signal on the alarm bell but no one heard him.

Yesterday Lowe, the doyen of Britain's stamp dealers whose firm is now in its 65th year, made light of his ordeal. "It was an interesting experience," he told me, "I spent the time reading a book called "2000 years in Exeter."
